Mother's Day 1944

Julius and Bessie with sons.  Ray in back, Chester on right and Norbert in front.

Dear Grace,

I just received yur letter dated April 10th.  It was supposed to be May 10th.  At the time I am writing you this letter I am on alert.  When yu are on alert that means you are ready to ship - today - a week from now -  or maybe even a month so I don't know how long I'll be here yet.

I sure wish that I could be up there now.  I'll bet it really is nice now during the spring season.  Gee, the way you mention all those outdoor sports that you participate in makes me want to quit this job I have and go home.  But I guess this job I am doing comes first.

I sent my Mom a box of roses for Mother's Day.  I hope she received 'em on time.

Boy this being on alert gets me.  We are restricted to the barracks.  I can't tell you any more, Grace, so I guess I'll have to close now.  I would write more but I can't on account of there is so much we can't talk about.  I guess I'll close now.

Sincerely as ever,
Ray

P.S,  I am enclosing a set of Cpl. stripes and an Air Corps Insignia you might be able to sew on some jacket or yours.  It will remind you of me.
